Dogs on New York beaches
New York's big state beaches don't allow dogs at all. New York City beaches welcome leashed dogs from October to spring, and Fire Island and Gateway beaches open to dogs after plover season.

What we coverNew York City, Long Island and state park trails: 11 beaches, 10 walks. Next: Long Island town beaches (often residents-only), the Hamptons, Great Lakes beaches and Adirondack trails. Places not on the map aren't checked yet.
Shorebird closuresPiping plover and tern nesting areas close to dogs from spring to fall, and can change daily. Signs on the beach always take priority.
Leash laws"Dogs allowed" means there's no beach rule against dogs that day. Town and state leash laws still apply unless a beach is marked off-leash.
